Priorities

Expanding on the improvements the Traffic Commission has made to road and pedestrian safety

Keep the traffic commission, trustee candidates: Charles Kelly (Commissioner), Larry Marciano, and Michael Sullivan together to continue the Village-wide improvements made to road and pedestrian safety.

Resolve St. Paul’s

We commit to bringing forward a master plan for the St. Paul’s campus that has broad community support.

Fight the Sands Casino at the Nassau Hub

Will double down and lead the opposition to the Sands Casino at the Hub together with the Say No to the Casino community organization (co-founded by candidate Richard Williams). We recognize the disastrous impact a casino would have on our Village and surrounding communities. The serious health and security issues that surround casinos are well known, and the impact on our roadways already overburdened with traffic would be consequential.

Continue improvements to the 7th street and Franklin Ave. business district

The Garden City business district should be a thriving destination and should maintain the character and principles of Garden City.

Principles

For A Better Garden City, and its candidates, believe in the following principles:

  • We believe in advocating on behalf of all community members to address quality of life issues and will preserve and protect our local zoning and other sovereignty from outside encroachment by politicians and agencies determined to negatively impact our quality of life.

  • We aim first to preserve and believe that no street or neighborhood should have their streetscape dramatically changed without a thorough and public discussion. Resident input should be considered, with particular consideration given to those residents directly affected by a proposal.

  • We believe accountability starts with open and fair elections and competition on the ballot.

  • We believe in open and transparent government communication. Village Government must prioritize transparent and thorough sharing of information with its residents.

  • We support a robust and well-trained corp of first responders.

  • Every resident must have access to clean and safe drinking water and we will take measures to address this.

  • We believe that the Village’s physical appearance and open green space is an important part of the fabric of Garden City and it’s defense must be a top priority.

  • We believe that the Village and its government must have a strong long-term partnership with Village businesses in order to maintain and grow the commercial tax base, working to minimize the tax burden on Residents.

  • We believe that the fate of St Paul’s be decided on by the Residents with every individual receiving the input they need to make an informed vote and that the decision be swiftly put into action.

  • We believe in implementing traffic measures that consider a village-wide approach to address the volume and speed of traffic coming through Garden City.
