Accomplishments

2023

  • Held public opinion poll on St. Paul’s in October to help steer the Board of Trustees in the direction supported by the majority of residents. Selected a committee of process-oriented residents to create a data driven decision after three decades. 

  • Transformed Village response to traffic concerns, undertaking critical engineering studies and implementing visible improvements to pedestrian safety and driver safety

  • Extensive Library Renovation including building infrastructure such as roof, fire alarm, front door, communication systems and children’s room after continuous delays.

  • After Vape Shop scare on Franklin Ave, rapidly implemented a Moratorium to stop any vape and smoke shops, tattoo parlors and adult stores from opening in Garden City.

  • Retained our Triple A (AAA) bond rating.

  • Prioritized communications to residents about environmental issues, including the public safety issue of lead service lines.

  • Began a green space and parkland initiative designating four of our parks as parkland to preserve this land for future generations. (Triangle Park/Norris Park/Stewart Manor Field/Franklin Mews)

  • GC Casino continued upkeep of village owned historic building at members expense per licensing agreement

  • Unequivocally opposed to Gambling Casino at the Nassau Hub and strongly advocating in opposition from day one.

  • Passed law prohibiting short term rentals/Airbnbs/VRBO in the Village and now drafting a code to address issue of vacant homes in response to resident complaints.

2022

  • Negotiated agreement with MTA to secure over $6 Mil worth of landscaping to mitigate 3rd track project area.

  • Built Citizen Advisory Committees and hired a firm to address traffic as a village-wide issue instead of section by section.

  • Acted swiftly to prepare an inventory of all lead water service lines in the Village along with waiving permit fees to replace those lines.

  • No Village property tax increase due to maintaining a flat budget.

  • Introduced discounted off-peak railroad parking passes.

  • Removed the fence along Franklin Mews ending an 8 year stain on the neighborhood.

  • To reduce the speeding and negative impacts to the neighborhood, closed the parking lot at the end of Raymond Ct. and opened it only for Thunder football.

  • Created a new cleanup shift for mornings after Friday promenades.

  • Licensed landscapers in Garden City so village residents can be assured that their landscapers abide by local laws and are properly insured.

2021

  • Negotiated and executed a long term agreement to preserve the Casino.

  • Stopped work on the Edgemere Firehouse to do a Needs Assessment thru a committee of citizens and firefighters

  • Invited charitable events like Andy Foundation and Jay Gallagher Tournament to return to St. Paul’s.

  • Respected and followed Open Meeting Laws.

  • Established citizen committees to address Garden City issues that were so helpful in the past.

  • The 3rd Track Committee reconstituted as a committee of Trustees and residents to assess prior Board of Trustees decisions and challenged the Monster Poles.

  • Advance Environmental Committee proposals to address work from home and pollution and water issues.

  • Formed a citizens group to draft a referendum on St. Paul’s.

  • Respect residents and their questions during BOT meetings.
